The Rockies the Easy Way
I went to the Glenbow Museum in Calgary today to see the exhibit
Artists on the Canadian Pacific Railway
In 1871, Sir John A. Macdonald promised a railway link to the Pacific Ocean if British Columbia joined Confederation.
The exhibit features works by 20 artists who travelled west, courtesy of the CPR and William Van Horne. These remarkable artists captured images of the prairie and the mountains, incorporating them into Canada’s emerging national identity. Oh and the train had to stop when they asked so they could work their magic.
It was a mix of painting and photographs and displays of their camera equipment and boy do I have an appreciation for the digital age what amazing artists they were back then not to mention athletes to carry that equipment around.
So I came home to see if I could liken one of my photos to some the greats I saw there today, of course I did fall short of those amazing master pieces but here it is anyways. This is mount Rundle in Banff National Park. If you ever get a chance to see this exhibit I highly recomend it.
